How to fertilize dahlias

How to fertilize dahlias

1. When applying fertilizer, you should not only focus on the amount of nitrogen. If you ignore this issue, the dahlia may only have leaves but no flowers.

2. Be careful when applying fertilizer. Stop top dressing during the high temperature season (when the temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius in summer), and resume top dressing normally in autumn when the temperature drops.

3. Dahlias have a good ability to absorb fertilizers, but because of this, topdressing should not be excessive so that its stems and leaves can grow just right. Although sufficient fertilizer must be supplied, otherwise the dahlias will bloom smaller, the color will not be rich, and they will not be so beautiful. Secondly, decide whether to apply top dressing based on its growth conditions. It is best to apply some thin fertilizer.

4. Generally, apply liquid fertilizer with lower concentration for a while in the first half a month or so when the seedlings are young. Once every 7-10 days after flower buds appear. Fertilization should be stopped when flower buds appear. The amount of fertilizer to be used depends on the growth of the plant. As long as the leaves are not dark in color, it is time to apply fertilizer; but if the leaves turn yellow, it is caused by too much fertilizer, so fertilization should be stopped at this time.

5. After the flower buds appear, apply liquid fertilizer three times every month, and stop when the flower buds open slightly. The 10cm-15cm rhizomes should come out before frost. Cut off the branches and leaves, dig up the tubers, and let them dry for one to two days, then they can be stored indoors. The temperature inside the house is around five degrees Celsius.

Precautions

Even if a plant likes fertilizer very much, you should not apply too much fertilizer. The better a plant absorbs fertilizer, the more serious it is. The amount of fertilizer should be strictly controlled. Flower lovers will have to learn this in practice in the future.
