How to plant mountain ash?

Seed Collection

The planting of mountain ash is generally done by sowing. September of each year is the time when the fruits of the mountain ash mature. If you plan to collect seeds at this time, you can leave the large, good-quality, and disease-free fruits on the branches and wait until winter to pick them.

Seed treatment

The collected fruits are pressed and mashed, rinsed with tap water, the seeds and pulp are separated, and the high-quality seeds are selected after drying. Rowan likes moisture and cold weather, and the same conditions are required for seed germination. Before sowing, the seeds need to be soaked in warm water for a day and a night, and the water temperature should be kept at around 40℃. Afterwards, disinfect and then rinse. Under the condition that the ambient temperature does not exceed five degrees, mix one part of seeds and three parts of sand evenly. The seeds will germinate in about two to three months. Take out the germinated seeds before sowing and place them in a moist, cool indoor environment for later use.

sowing

Generally, the soil should be prepared before planting seeds. One purpose is to prevent residual pests and diseases in the soil, and the other is to supplement the nutrients necessary for the growth of mountain ash. Fertilize and prepare the hotbed before the seeds are planted in the ground. Generally, spring and autumn are the best time to plant mountain ash, and planters can choose according to their needs.

Precautions

During the planting process, the soil must be kept clean and tidy, the nutrients of the mountain ash seedlings must not be taken away by grass, the light must not be blocked by weeds, and the soil must be loosened frequently to increase soil permeability.
