How to test soil pH

How to test soil pH

Look at the soil source

To know the acidity and alkalinity of the soil, we must first know the source of the soil. Generally, some specific soils have their own properties. We need to know whether these soils are certain specific soils, and then judge what the properties of the soil are.

Watching the growing plants

In fact, some plants have their own growth characteristics. Some like acidic soil, while others like alkaline soil. For example, places where there are large areas of rhododendrons generally have acidic soil, and places where plants such as grasshoppers grow also have acidic soil. The soil for plants that grow beans and cereals is generally alkaline, while the soil for plants that grow white cabbage is generally acidic.

Look at the color of the soil

You can observe the color of the soil. Generally, slightly acidic soil will appear black, brown or brownish black, while alkaline soil will appear white or yellowish white.

Check watering conditions

Also, if you water the soil, check the watering situation.

Generally, if water seeps out and has a muddy color when watering, it is usually acidic soil. If white bubbles and foam appear when watering, it is usually alkaline soil. If the soil becomes loose after watering, it is usually acidic soil. If the soil becomes hardened after watering and there is white powder on the surface, it is usually alkaline soil.
