How to Keep Tulips Blooming in Winter

How to Keep Tulips Blooming in Winter

Winter flowering method 1

Choose larger bulbs and use 12-15cm pots, with 3-4 bulbs planted in each pot. After watering thoroughly, bury the pot in the cold bed and cover it with 15-20cm thick soil. Avoid moisture. After 2-3 months of low temperature, the roots will grow fully.

When the plants start to sprout in December every year, take out the pots and place them in a semi-shaded environment indoors, keeping the indoor temperature at 5-10℃. When flower buds appear, increase the room temperature to 15-18℃, move the plant to the sun, and add fertilizer several times. This way the tulips will be able to bloom around New Year's Day in winter.

Winter Flowering Method 2

Place the enlarged bulbs dug out from the pots at 34°C for a week, then store them at 20°C for 1 month. After the flower buds are fully differentiated, transplant them to 17°C and refrigerate them for 1-2 weeks, refrigerate them at 1-3°C for one and a half months, and then plant them.

Winter Flowering Method 3

Purchase tulip bulbs directly from the market and subject them to low-temperature treatment. Then plant the bulbs in pots in November and December, using plastic pots of about 18 cm. Plant 3 bulbs in each plastic pot, and cover the soil to a height of about 1-2 cm.

Before planting, the occurrence of diseases should be prevented. The brown outer branches at the bottom of the bulb need to be removed, and then planted indoors at a temperature of 15-18℃. It will bloom within 2 months.
