Hard branch cutting method of red yew

Hard branch cutting method of red yew

Hardwood cutting method

Cutting selection

It is suitable to choose old branches that are one year old or older for cuttings, and they should be cut before the buds on the branches of the red yew are fully swollen in late March to early April, so that they are easier to take root and survive.

Cuttings

Generally, it is necessary to retain 2-3 buds on the cuttings. The upper end should be cut flatly 1 cm away from the top bud, and the lower end should be cut obliquely opposite the last bud. The angle should be less than 45 degrees. The length of the cuttings is about 10-15 cm.

Cuttings processing

Generally, there is no need to process the cuttings of red yew, just pay attention to moisturizing. However, if the cutting environment is poor, you should use 20% α-naphthaleneacetic acid powder 2.5, add 5 kg of water, dilute it into 0.05% solution, and then put the lower end of the cuttings into the prepared solution and soak for 3-6 hours.

Cuttings

The cutting medium needs to be loose, and the cuttings should be carried out with a row spacing of about 2 cm. The cutting depth should be about 5-7 cm, and 1-2 buds should be exposed at the same time. Then spray water regularly to keep it moist.

Dividing

Generally, after 1-2 months, about 3 cm long fibrous roots will grow at the bottom of the red yew cuttings, and several new buds or new leaves will sprout on the cuttings. At this time, transplanting can be carried out.
