How to prune redwood

The red yew has strong vitality, good adaptability, a developed root system, and is relatively resistant to pruning. Generally, after the leaves fall in autumn, in order to maintain a good tree shape, proper pruning is needed to remove diseased branches, crossed branches, overlapping branches, and overgrown branches. It can also promote lush growth of branches and facilitate flowering and fruiting.

In spring, if the plant does not sprout many new branches, you can pinch the top of the tree during its growing season. Removing the top will help promote the formation of side branches and make the crown fuller.

For middle-aged and old plants that are more than 5 years old, since these branches have grown weak, their skin appears old and dull, and they have no ornamental value, they need to be renewed in time, usually in autumn. Keep 1-2 buds at the base and cut off the rest. New branches will sprout again in the second year.
