How to fertilize aloe vera

How to fertilize aloe vera

Aloe Vera Fertilization Time and Fertilizer

Proper fertilization of aloe vera can be more conducive to its growth. Regarding the choice of fertilizer, organic fertilizers such as bean cake and chicken manure are more suitable. Fertilization is generally done once every two months, but do not fertilize from November to March because the root activity of aloe vera temporarily stops at this time.

Reasonable amount of fertilizer for aloe vera

The amount of fertilizer for aloe vera depends on the size of the flower pot. The amount of fertilizer should be reasonable, as too much fertilizer may damage the roots. It is best to dig a hole farthest from the stem and fill the fertilizer into the soil.

How to fertilize aloe vera

The fertilization methods for potted aloe vera mainly use two forms: base fertilizer and topdressing.

base fertilizer

Before potting, mix the fertilizer and substrate in a ratio of about 10:1 and then put them into the pot together. If organic fertilizer is used as base fertilizer, it needs to be fully fermented beforehand, otherwise it will cause seedling burn and damage the aloe vera.

top dressing

Top dressing should be done during the growth period of aloe vera. The fertilizer needs to be diluted first. Usually, the concentration of urea not exceeding 2% or 1% superphosphate aqueous solution is applied. Be careful not to make the fertilizer solution too concentrated to avoid fertilizer damage, especially when applying foliar fertilizers, the concentration should not exceed 1%. It can generally be done every 2 to 30 days. Aloe usually grows faster in spring, so the number of topdressing times can be appropriately increased. In winter, the growth rate is slow, so less fertilizer can be applied, or even no fertilizer should be applied.
