Grafting propagation method of red back laurel

Red back laurel grafted rootstock

The rootstocks generally used are Ligustrum lucidum, Ligustrum lucidum, Fraxinus chinensis, Fraxinus chinensis, Fraxinus chinensis and Fraxinus tassels. If it is propagated in large quantities, Ligustrum lucidum is often used as it has a higher survival rate and the seedlings grow very fast after grafting, but their lifespan is relatively short. Using water wax as rootstock, it grows slower but has a long lifespan. When using tassel as rootstock, it is best to graft it during the growing season of the red-backed laurel, and avoid rainy days.

Grafting time of red back laurel

The most suitable time to graft red-back laurel is before budding in spring.

Grafting method of red back laurel

Cut the rootstock 5 cm above the ground, select 1-2 year old sturdy branches of the red-backed laurel, cut 10-12 cm, cut the base into a facet of about 2 cm, and cut a small bevel on the opposite side. Then cut vertically about one-third of the way down one side of the rootstock, to a depth of 2-3 cm. Then you can insert the scion into the incision, tie it tightly with a plastic bag, cover it with soil, and start cultivation and management.

How to graft the red-backed osmanthus plant

Potted red-back laurel is generally grafted by approaching grafting. When choosing the rootstock and scion, the thickness of their branches should be similar. Choose a suitable position and cut a spindle-shaped incision about 32 cm long on the scion, the depth of which should reach the wood. Similarly, the rootstock should be treated in the same way, and its incision height and size should be the same as those of the scion. Then put the two incisions together, tie them up with a plastic bag, and tie them tightly. After the wound heals, cut off the rootstock and scion above and below the interface.
