Cutting time of red back osmanthus

Cuttings can be taken during the growing season, and the most suitable time is before the spring buds sprout. At this time, the hormones in the branches are relatively rich, and the nutrients are accumulated more, so the survival rate after cutting is high. If you miss the opportunity, you can also do cuttings in late July to mid-August after the spring shoots stop growing but the autumn shoots have not yet sprouted.

Selection of cuttings of red back osmanthus

Select 1-2 year old healthy and disease-free branches, leave 2-3 leaves on the top, remove the lower leaves, and cut them into cuttings about 10 cm in length. The lower incision can be soaked in naphthaleneacetic acid solution for about 5 minutes before cutting.

Preparation for cuttings of Osmanthus fragrans

When taking cuttings, choose a sunny spot and dig an oblong pit, about 12 meters long, 1.2 meters wide and 70 centimeters deep. Dig some more manure, about 0.4 meters, and spread a layer of perlite about 20 centimeters thick on top. After cuttings, it is best to build a plastic shed. After the seedbed is prepared, disinfect the soil with potassium manganate solution.

Cutting method of red back osmanthus

First, use a small stick to poke a hole, then insert the cuttings into it to a depth of 3-4 cm, spray it with water, and then cover it with plastic film to keep it warm and moist.

Management of Osmanthus fragrans after cutting

Keep the temperature at around 25℃, spray two or three times a day, and ventilate every two or three days. When the roots of the cuttings die, spray them with potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution once a week. It will take about a month for the roots to grow and about 50 days for planting in pots.
