Soil Preparation

The culture soil for repotting can be a mixture of garden soil and slag in a ratio of 3:1, or a mixture of garden soil, medium-coarse river sand and sawdust in a ratio of 4:1:2, or you can choose one of paddy soil, pond mud, or leaf mold.

Pot preparation

Choose a flower pot of appropriate size as a repotting container, and cover the small holes at the bottom of the pot with two tiles. This can prevent the soil in the pot from being washed out of the pot, and can also drain excess water in time to prevent water accumulation. It is best to put a layer of crushed stones or expanded clay on the tiles as a water filter layer, about 2-3 cm thick. Place organic fertilizer about 1-3 cm deep on the drainage layer, and then spread a thin layer of substrate about 2 cm thick on the fertilizer to separate the roots and fertilizer.

First, you need to remove the bird of paradise plant from the pot, and you can trim the roots appropriately according to specific growth needs. First, gently pat the sides of the flowerpot with your palms so that the roots of the broom plant will separate from the pot wall due to the vibration. Then put the inverted flowerpot on your left hand and gently clamp the plant. At the same time, support the edge of the pot with your wrist, gently pat the bottom of the pot, and use your thumb to reach through the bottom hole to push the root soil down to allow the broom plant to break out. After taking it out, continue to gently pat the soil in the pot with your palms to make the excess soil fall off. Finally, place the plant into the prepared flowerpot, hold the plant with one hand, and fill it with nutrient soil with the other hand, compacting the soil to about 2-3 cm away from the mouth of the pot.
