How to propagate goldenrod

Cutting propagation of golden bracts

The main propagation method of golden bract is cuttings. The cuttings can be taken all year round, but April is the best time. Choose strong branches with short internodes as cuttings, remove the lower leaves, and keep the top leaves, about 8-10 cm in length. Insert them in plain sand, shade and moisturize. They will take root after about half a month. They will bloom in the same year they are cut and can also be inserted in water.

When planting cuttings of golden bract seedlings in pots, first prepare pond mud and green rice husk ash, mix them in a ratio of 2:1, and add chicken manure as base fertilizer. After the seedlings have grown for a week, you can slowly give them appropriate amounts of light. After the seedlings survive, they need to be pinched. The first time, pinch off 1 or 2 nodes. Wait until the new shoots grow 2-3 pairs of leaves, then pinch off another pair of leaves. It will bloom 2 or 3 months after pinching stops. In addition, you can also irrigate the roots with 500ppm of paclobutrazol or 2000ppm of dwarfing agent to prevent the internodes from becoming too long and the plants too tall after you stop pinching.

Other ways to propagate goldenrod

In addition, in order to promote the rapid reproduction of the golden bract flower, the golden bract flower stem tip and axillary bud tissue culture method is generally used for reproduction. However, this method is more difficult and professional, and is not suitable for home operations.

Precautions for propagating golden buds

During the flowering period and in the greenhouse in winter, small black mold spots often appear on the flowers of golden bud flowers due to poor ventilation. This mildew is actually the excrement of powder beetles. Once the density of adult insects is too high, these dense black spots will appear, causing the golden buds to gradually rot. In addition, red wax moss and aphids often cause damage, which directly affects the growth and ornamental effect of golden bud flowers. Once pests appear, you can use 40% omethoate 1500 times liquid to spray continuously to kill them.

The wintering temperature of golden bract flower generally cannot be lower than 10℃, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and fall off. If the temperature can be above 15℃, it can bloom in winter. By the spring of the second year, the stems of plants over two years old have become semi-lignified and their growth has weakened, so cuttings should be used for renewal.
