How to propagate Pyracantha

Seed propagation

Pyracantha can be propagated by sowing seeds. Pyracantha will bear fruits in the autumn. The fruits of Pyracantha will generally mature in October. At this time, we can collect Pyracantha seeds. After the fruits of Pyracantha mature in the autumn, they can remain on the tree until February of the following year. After picking the fruits of Pyracantha, remove the pulp, clean the seeds, and then dry the seeds of Pyracantha. When it is time to sow, first treat the seeds with 2 parts per thousand concentration of gibberellin, then plant the seeds in the soil, covering them with about three centimeters of soil, and then water them until the land is completely moist.

Cutting propagation

Pyracantha can also be propagated by cuttings. If you choose to propagate Pyracantha by cuttings, it is best to do it between November of each year and March of the following year. In this way, the survival rate of Pyracantha cuttings can reach more than 90%. We first select a Pyracantha tree that has been growing for two years, cut off a branch with a growth period of 1 to 2 years, and keep the length of the cut branch at 12 to 15 cm. The lower end of the branch is trimmed diagonally into the shape of a horse ear. Dig a small hole of about ten centimeters on the land where you will plant the branches, plant them with the branches about 2 to 5 centimeters above the ground, then fill it with soil, tamp the ground firmly, and then water it. Keep the land moist at all times.
