Division and sowing of mint

Mint division

The main cultivation method of mint is open field cultivation. If we want to cultivate it on a large scale, we often choose the simple and easy division propagation method.

First of all, we need to choose healthy mint plants without diseases and insect pests as mother plants, make the mother plants creep, and make the stems closely contact with the ground. Then water and fertilize twice. When planting on a large scale, apply 10-15kg of urea per mu. After the mother plant's stem nodes produce adventitious roots, cut each node separately, and each division will become a seedling. This way the mint is divided.

Mint sowing

When sowing mint, the soil requirements are not high, but it is better to use semi-sandy loam with deep soil layer, loose, fertile and rich in organic matter. The suitable growth temperature is 20-30°C.

Mint likes sunlight and is not suitable to be planted in shady places. It is best to plant mint while digging the soil to prevent the roots from drying out.

When sowing mint, you must water it thoroughly, but you must prevent the tiny mint seeds from being washed away. Choose loose soil that can effectively drain water and increase the germination rate of seeds. After watering, you can cover the planting container with plastic wrap, poke small holes for ventilation, and place it in the sun. In this case, the mint seeds will germinate in one to two weeks.

After the mint sprouts, remove the plastic wrap and the soil can be replaced with ordinary garden soil. When watering, do not water the leaves of the young shoots, so as to prevent the young mint from getting disease.
