How to propagate peacock wood

Growth habits of peacock wood

The peacock wood is native to the Pacific Islands and Australia. It likes a warm and humid living environment with plenty of sunshine and fertile soil. It cannot accept direct sunlight and is not cold-resistant.

How to propagate peacock wood

Seed propagation

Sowing and seedling raising, sowing after seeds are harvested. Wash the seeds, store them in wet sand, and wait until the cracks turn white before sowing. The suitable temperature for sowing in spring is 20~25℃, and seedlings will emerge in about 25~30 days. It is important to ensure appropriate temperature, otherwise low temperature will seriously affect the germination rate of seeds.

Cutting propagation

Frog stone, perlite, peat soil, etc. can be used as cutting media. Under warm conditions, treating the lower incision of the cuttings with 500 mg/l indolebutyric acid or No. 1 ABT rooting powder for five to ten seconds will produce an ideal rooting effect. The length of the cuttings is about 5 to 10 cm. Use scissors to cut off one or two leaves at the base. The insertion depth is about half the length of the cuttings. Then spray water. Cover with a film after the sprinkler water, provide appropriate shade, and maintain the temperature within the range of 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. It will take root in about 20 days.

Layering propagation

If it is a ground-planted clumping plant, low pressure should be applied in April; if it is a taller potted plant, high pressure can be applied. When applying high pressure, first insert a bamboo pole as a support, and then tie the soil ball of the layered part to the bamboo pole.

Peacock tree is so unique and cute, and the breeding method is also very simple. Flower lovers, why don’t you take action quickly!
