Timely supplementation of magnesium

Anthuriums are easy to grow, but their magnesium requirements are much higher than many other foliage plants. When magnesium supply is insufficient, the edges of old leaves of white calla lily will turn yellow and dry.

Growers should use liquid or solid fertilizers to supplement magnesium to the plants, or they can regularly spray the plants with magnesium sulfate, magnesium nitrate or magnesium chelates.

Find the right light level

Anthurium is a shade-tolerant plant. Generally speaking, the shade level required for growing Anthurium is at least 73%. In summer, 80% shade is better.

However, you cannot place the white calla lily in too much shade for a long time. If the light level is too low, the color of the white calla lily leaves will fade and its growth will be stunted.

Keep moisture in check

Anthurium likes a humid environment, the substrate must always be kept moist, and you cannot wait until the substrate is completely dry before watering. The most suitable relative humidity for the growth of Anthurium is 75% to 85%. You should frequently use a fine-mesh sprayer to spray water on the leaves and sprinkle water on the ground around the plant to keep the air moist, which is very beneficial to its growth and development.

When the climate is dry and the air humidity is low, the new leaves will become smaller and yellow, and in severe cases they will wither and fall off.

If the humidity is greater than 80% at night, the greenhouse temperature must be raised by 1°C to 2°C one hour before sunrise in the early morning and continued until two hours after sunrise to avoid infection with pathogens.

Controlling root rot is critical

If the plant is infected with root rot, its roots will turn black and cause the old leaves to wither and die. In severe cases, the plant may die.

There are currently no white palm varieties on the market that are resistant to root rot, so the best approach is prevention. Spraying with fungicides can prevent root rot, but it will not cure the disease.

Spraying gibberellic acid to artificially induce flowering of plants

Different species of white anthuriums have different flowering times. Generally speaking, small varieties respond faster to gibberellic acid and can bloom 7 to 9 weeks after spraying, medium-sized varieties need 10 to 11 weeks, and large varieties need 12 to 13 weeks.

It should be noted that too high a concentration of gibberellic acid can cause the plant's flowers to deform.

The container should be appropriate

When planting anthuriums, choose a container of appropriate size depending on the variety. Some small varieties are suitable for planting in 4-inch containers, while some large varieties are suitable for planting in 21-inch containers. Growers should choose according to actual conditions.
