Things to pay attention to when growing Clivia in winter1. Fertilization. Clivia's nutritional growth rate is fastest in winter and it needs the most nutrients, so it is important to apply winter fertilizer properly. Before bringing the flower pots indoors, use bone meal, roasted sesame seeds, cooked soybeans, or compound fertilizer, and water them once every 15 to 20 days. You can also use liquid soaked in animal and plant residues to water the roots. Fertilizers should be well decomposed and applied in small amounts to prevent damage caused by concentrated fertilizers. 2. Watering. Clivia has fleshy roots and is sensitive to waterlogging. In addition, the leaves of Clivia have a wax layer, and the temperature is low in winter, so the transpiration and evaporation of water are small. Therefore, do not water too much. Just combine watering with fertilization to keep the soil in the pot moist. Do not flood the plant with water, as this will cause root rot and seedling death. 3. Keep warm. The most suitable growth temperature for Clivia is 15℃ to 25℃. It will stop growing at 10℃ and will be damaged by frost at 0℃. Therefore, it is necessary to keep warm and prevent freezing in winter. After the flower stems emerge, it is best to maintain the temperature at around 18℃. If the temperature is too high, the leaves and flower mosses will grow thin and unnecessarily, the flowers will be small and of poor quality, and the flowering period will be short; if the temperature is too low, the flower stems will be short, and it will be easy to cause premature flowering (flowering), affecting the quality and reducing the ornamental value. 4. Dimming. Clivia prefers scattered light and avoids direct strong light. When caring for the plant indoors in winter, the flower pots should be placed in a location with sufficient light. Especially before flowering, good light is necessary to help the flower buds grow strong. After flowering, appropriately lower the temperature, avoid strong light, and maintain good ventilation to help prolong the flowering period. 5. Protect the leaves. The characteristics of a healthy Clivia are fat leaves, strong flowers, green leaves and bright flowers, and short, broad, thick, green, bright and straight leaves, which are the basis for promoting flowering and improving its ornamental value. In order to maintain strong leaf quality, in addition to providing a reasonable amount of fertilizer and water, the leaf surface must be kept clean to improve photosynthetic efficiency. There are two ways to protect leaves. First, wash the leaves regularly. Spray or wipe the dust on the contaminated leaves with the same clean water to keep the leaf surface clean. Second, spray fungicides in time to prevent the occurrence of leaf spot, leaf blight, and stem rot to ensure that the leaves are green and the flowers are bright. Clivia is afraid of high temperatures. In midsummer, the temperature is often above 30℃, which is extremely unfavorable for the growth of Clivia. For this reason, sheds are generally used to cool down. You can also bury the Clivia and its pot in the sand (cover the pot), and then sprinkle water on the sand once in the morning and once in the evening every day. In this way, the soil in the pot can be kept moist, and more importantly, the temperature can be reduced by absorbing heat when the water in the sand evaporates. Helps Clivia safely through the hot summer. |
