How to propagate perfume grass

Cuttings

The propagation of fragrant grass is generally carried out by cuttings. The suitable period for cuttings is all year round, but the cuttings in spring and autumn are better.

The cuttings of fragrant grass can be carried out indoors, and the tender branches of fragrant grass are selected for cuttings. Indoor cuttings are usually done in February and March. Choose relatively strong young branches from the upper part of the fragrant grass plant. Keep 2 to 4 stem nodes and cut the young branches from the fragrant grass plant. The incision should be smooth. When using the young branches cut from the fragrant grass as cuttings for iris, you need to remove the leaves on the lower part of the cuttings, and keep 2 to 3 leaves on the upper part of the branches on the stem.

Prepare suitable cutting medium, generally clean river sand is used for cuttings. Insert the cuttings of scented grass into the substrate. Note that the cuttings only need to be inserted one-third into the sand. After cutting, gently press the sand, then water it sufficiently and provide appropriate shade. Maintain a certain humidity and temperature, and it will take root in about 3 weeks.

After the fragrant grass takes root, it can be transplanted into the wild. It can be topped when it grows to about 7 or 8 cm. During the maintenance process, water and fertilizer management should be strengthened.

sowing

Seed propagation is also a method of propagation for scented grass, but the seeds of scented grass have a short lifespan, so they need to be sown as soon as possible after harvesting the seeds.

The sowing and propagation of fragrant grass is generally carried out in autumn. Sow the harvested seeds and keep the temperature at around 20℃. They will germinate in about 20 to 30 days. When the seedlings of fragrant grass grow to a certain height, they can be transplanted and planted.
