How to propagate tiger flower

How to propagate tiger flower: sowing

The seeds of tiger face flower are small and should be sown immediately after being picked. It is advisable to sow shallowly. The sowing medium should be mixed with 1 part of leaf mold, 2 parts of peat soil, and 1 part of fine sand. After disinfection and sieving, level the surface of the pot, soak it with water, and then sow evenly. After sowing, cover with a shallow layer of fine soil or fine sand. At a temperature of 18-25℃, it will germinate in 30 days and can be planted in pots after another 2 months.

The propagation methods of tiger flower: division and cutting

Division and cuttings should be carried out when repotting in spring. Be careful when taking out the mother plant when repotting, and do not break the leaves. Then cut the runners into sections, each with at least 2-3 leaves. After the incision is dry, plant them in the pot. Applying wood ash or charcoal powder on the cut wound can prevent the wound from rotting and increase the survival rate.

The propagation method of tiger flower: tissue culture

The axillary buds of the tiger face flower were used as explants . Under sterile conditions, after routine disinfection, they were inoculated on MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/L of artificial mitogen (BA) and 0.1 mg/L of naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) for culture. The culture medium contained 2% sucrose, 0.6% agar, and the pH value was 5.8. The culture temperature was (25±2)℃, the light duration was 10 hours/day, and the light intensity was 1100 lux (LX). Yellow-green callus tissue grows within 1 week, and cluster buds differentiate directly on the surface of the callus tissue within 20 days. The cluster buds can proliferate rapidly by subculturing on the above culture medium. The cluster buds are transferred to 50% MS rooting medium supplemented with 0.1 mg/L naphthaleneacetic acid and cultured, and roots can be grown within 10 days. After one month of cultivation, the test tube seedlings can be transplanted into pots, and the seedling survival rate reaches over 90%.

Of course, ordinary people like us don’t have the conditions to choose such a technically demanding propagation method as tissue culture. Flower lovers can just use the propagation method of sowing, division and cutting to reproduce the offspring of Tiger Face Flower!
