The suitable temperature for germination of delphinium is about 15℃, and the soil temperature is best below 20℃. It will germinate in about two weeks.

Autumn sowing is in late August to early September. First sow in the open field seedbed, then put into the cold bed or cold room for overwintering before winter, and transplant in the spring when the weather is warm. In the south, direct seeding is carried out in the open field in early spring, and the spacing between plants should be kept at 25 to 5 cm.

In the north, seedlings are usually raised in advance and transplanted in the late April. They are transplanted when they have 2 to 4 true leaves and transplanted when they have 4 to 7 true leaves. Pay attention to drainage on rainy days.

Delphiniums are propagated by cuttings in spring. When the new branches grow more than 15 cm, cuttings are cut and inserted into sandy soil.

Don't rush to water after inserting the plant into the sand. You can water it appropriately after 2-3 days.

Division

It can be carried out in spring and autumn. In spring, when the new buds grow to 15-18cm, they are divided and transplanted after rooting. You can also take new branches from the base for cuttings after flowering.

Division requires careful consideration of fate. Some delphiniums may not grow new shoots for three years, while others may grow many small seedlings clinging to the base of the mother plant in just one year.

Division is generally carried out every 2-3 years, otherwise it is easy to deplete the vitality of the mother plant.
