When is the best time to take cuttings for fuchsia?

Fuchsia cutting time

Fuchsia can be propagated by cuttings as long as the dormant stage in summer is avoided, but it is best to do it in April in spring. The branches will take root in about 20 days, and the temperature and humidity are more suitable at this time. The plant is in the peak growth season, the possibility of survival will increase, and it is easy to manage. But if it is propagated in winter, the branches will take root in about 25 days.

Fuchsia cutting method

1. Select branches : Choose branches that have not yet become woody, and it is best if the branches have some tender tips. Then use a sterilized knife to cut the branches as cuttings, about 5 to 10 cm in length. Cut off the leaves at the bottom of the cuttings, leaving only one or two leaves on the top.

2. Choose soil : The soil for fuchsia cuttings should be fine river sand. The soil should be disinfected before use, and the flower pots should also be disinfected with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution before use.

3. Carry out cuttings : first soak the cuttings in vitamin B12 for more than a quarter of an hour, then use a wooden stick to poke a few small holes with a depth of 3-4 cm in the soil, and insert the branches. The distance between the cuttings should be about 7 cm. After the cuttings are completed, they need to be watered thoroughly, then covered with a plastic cloth with holes pierced through, and the cutting pots should be moved to a cool and ventilated place.

Precautions for cuttings of Fuchsia

After the fuchsia cuttings are completed, they should be placed in a cool and ventilated place. The indoor temperature should be maintained at around 20°C. After 7 days, they can be exposed to some scattered light. The plants need to be sprayed with water every day, once a day in winter, and once in the morning and evening from March to May. The humidity should be maintained at around 80%.
