Influenced by his father, Meng Yuzhi studied at Gansu Animal Husbandry School and Gansu Agricultural University, and studied in the field of agricultural and animal husbandry economic management. Meng Yuzhi spends nearly half of his time every year working in the fields, carefully answering the various questions that farmers encounter in vegetable planting. Drawing wisdom from practice, he distilled and summarized a series of practical technical points and innovative results, and spared no effort to promote them. Meng Yuzhi's first academic article was based on his own experiments - an efficient planting model of sweet corn sown in double furrows with full film and intercropping with red radishes.

At that time, Linxia City promoted the full-film double-ridge furrow sowing of field corn, which was mainly promoted in arid areas. Meng Yuzhi applied this model to the irrigated land in the suburbs to sow fresh corn in double furrows covered with full film, which effectively shortened the maturity period of the fresh corn.

After the fresh corn was harvested and put on the market, facing the vacant land left behind, he came up with an ingenious idea. Without removing the original film and retaining the corn root system, he replanted red radishes between two corn plants. This innovative move not only achieved efficient secondary utilization of the film, but also shortened the growth cycle of red radish. The double harvest of fresh corn and red radish brought considerable economic benefits.

After the successful practice, he summarized and wrote an article entitled " Planting Technology of Sweet Corn and Red Radish in Full Film Double Ridge Furrow Sowing in Linxia City", published it in the journal "China Agriculture", and promoted it through lectures in counties and cities.

"The process of agricultural technical training, industrial supervision and service work is tortuous, but the outcome is also gratifying! Take the full-film double-ridge furrow sowing of sweet corn and intercropping of vegetables as an example. At the beginning, everyone was full of doubts about the expected economic benefits of this model." Meng Yuzhi said.

Under Meng Yuzhi's active advocacy, the villagers in his village took the lead in responding and planted crops in large areas, achieving a return of over 10,000 yuan per mu that year. With good benefits, the villagers naturally became loyal "spokespersons" of this model.
