How to propagate Euphorbia milii

Cutting propagation

Cutting medium

The substrate is the soil. It is difficult to choose an ideal substrate for home cuttings. It is recommended to use prepared and sterilized soil so that the cuttings can grow in a sterile environment. It is better to choose coarse sand, but rinse it several times with clean water before use. Do not use river sand in saline-alkali areas as it is not conducive to the growth of plants.

Cuttings

In early spring or late autumn, choose a day when the temperature at noon does not exceed 28 ℃ and the temperature at night is not lower than 15 ℃. When the temperature is high from late spring to early autumn, the cuttings are very easy to rot, so it is best not to carry out cuttings. Cut off branches with 3 to 4 leaves, place them in a cool place to dry the wounds (be careful not to be pricked by thorns during the operation), plant them in the soil, and then spray the branches with water. As long as the soil is not too dry or too wet, the plant will quickly grow roots.

Maintenance after cutting

If you are taking cuttings for one plant, there is no need to put it in a pot. If you are taking cuttings for several plants, you need to move the seedlings into a pot. When the plant grows 2 to 3 leaves, pull up the plant with its roots and plant it in a flowerpot. Then place the flower pot in a cool place for maintenance. The purpose is to acclimate the plant to the new environment as quickly as possible.

After 2 to 3 weeks, you can place the plant in the sun and try to keep the environment well ventilated. Pay attention to watering. In spring and autumn, do not water the plant unless the soil in the pot is dry. Water the plant as appropriate, usually once every 3 to 4 days. Do not water too much during the flowering period, otherwise it will easily cause flowers to fall off and roots to rot. In summer when the temperature is high, you can water the plants once a day. The small plants of Euphorbia milii are also very strong. As long as they grow leaves and roots, they only need to be cared for like normal plants.

Fertilization should start in late May . Apply appropriate amount of fertilizer according to the size of the plant to meet its growth needs. If fertilizer is replenished in time, Euphorbia milii will grow quickly and will bloom in 2 to 3 years!

Tissue culture method

The tissue culture of Euphorbia milii uses the ovary and various genes of the flower. That is something in the biological world, and I am not quite sure about it, but most of the Euphorbia milii propagated on a large scale on the market use this method. In terms of reproduction speed and quantity, it is one of the best, but in terms of quality, cuttings are still the most practical method.
