How to propagate African jasmine

Cutting propagation

Cuttings can be used to grow seedlings from the end of April to October every year. If you do it in June or July, the rooting effect will exceed your imagination. Cut 1 to 2 year old strong branches as cuttings, the length of the cuttings should be 12 to 15 cm, with 2 to 3 and a half leaves, and the lower incision should be located 0.2 to 0.3 cm below the node. Cut them into peat soil, sandy loam, vermiculite or loess soil, but peat soil has the best rooting effect. Then cover the plant with plastic film to keep it moist. Pay attention to proper shade when the weather is clear. It will take root in 1 to 2 months, and the success rate can reach more than 90%.

Seed propagation

Collect the ripe fruits (buy directly) between October and December, remove the seeds, and sow them on loose and fertile sandy loam. Cover the soil with a thickness of 2 to 3 cm, cover with plastic wrap to keep warm, or hide the seeds in the sand until the seeds crack and turn white before sowing.

The seeds sown in late autumn and early winter will not germinate until the spring of next year. After germination, remove the plastic wrap in time, strengthen water and fertilizer management, and build a shed to provide shade after summer. Maybe you can cultivate strong plants!

Propagation by division

Between March and April, when the plants begin to sprout, remove the clumps from the pots, shake off some of the old soil, and use a sharp knife to cut them apart at the weak points where the roots are connected. This way, each clump has at least 2 to 3 stems and a portion of intact roots, and plant them in separate pots. This is very convenient, but during the division process, try to avoid too many wounds on the root system to avoid affecting future growth.

Layering propagation

Usually, layering is used for ground planting, but it can be done if the pot is large enough. In April, ring-peel or score the middle and lower parts of the 2 to 3 year old strong branches sprouting from the base, and press them directly into the soil. They will take root after 40 to 50 days. In July and August, separate it from the mother plant and repot it.
