How to make watermelon seeds germinate quickly

Watermelon seed germination environment

The watermelon seeds inside the watermelons bought from supermarkets can be used for sowing, or you can directly buy watermelon seeds from the market for sowing.

Watermelon likes a warm environment, and the suitable growth temperature is between 25-30 degrees. It grows poorly below 12 degrees. Watermelon seeds begin to germinate at 15-16 degrees, and the optimal temperature for germination is 28-30 degrees. It rarely germinates above 40 degrees. It likes an environment with plenty of sunlight and is suitable for planting in sandy loam with good ventilation, fast heat absorption, looseness, fertility, and deep soil layer.

Watermelon seed germination process

After the watermelon is planted, the radicle will slowly extend out, the hypocotyl will elongate, and the cotyledons will unfold. This stage generally takes 6-7 days. Early-maturing watermelons can be germinated to speed up the germination process. The germination period can be divided into two periods, before germination and after germination, according to the characteristics of seed germination and the requirements for environmental conditions.

Direct planting of watermelon seeds

Watermelon seeds can germinate directly when planted. Their growth rate is relatively fast and they can usually germinate in 10-15 days.

Watermelon seeds germination

First soak the watermelon seeds in clean water for 12 hours. The surface of the seeds will soften after absorbing water. After taking them out, select the high-quality and low-quality watermelon seeds. The undeveloped watermelon seeds will float on the water surface and can be discarded at this time.

Watermelon seed germination and planting method

After the watermelon sprouts, it can be directly sown in loose and fertile soil. After planting, cover it with a layer of fine soil, water it appropriately, and place it in a place with scattered light for maintenance. It will sprout in about 2 weeks. In the later stage, it is necessary to water it in time to maintain the moistness of the soil, apply thin liquid fertilizer in time, control the concentration, and provide sufficient light, but shade it when the light is strong.
