How to propagate Calceolaria

How to propagate Calceolaria

Seed propagation

The best time to propagate Calceolaria at home is from August to September every year, and it should be done indoors.

Because the seeds of Calceolaria are tiny and the temperature is very high during the sowing season, the sowing process must be done with extreme care. The best soil for sowing is a mixture of leaf mold and fine sand. After sowing the seeds, they need to be covered with a layer of filtered fine sand. The thickness should not be too thick, just enough to cover the seeds.

Finally, soak the bottom of the pot with water to moisten the soil, cover the pot with glass and place it in a cool place to wait. It usually takes about half a month for the seedlings to emerge.

Precautions

During the growth period of Calceolus from budding to flowering, it is important to carefully control the dryness and wetness, especially when watering, to prevent water from accumulating on the leaves and buds, otherwise the heart, buds and leaves will easily rot.

During the growing period, the air humidity needs to be maintained at no less than 80%. If the soil is too dry, it will cause red spider infestation.

When the sun is strong at noon, you need to shade the catkins to avoid exposure to the sun.

Keep the air circulating and keep the environment cool. Do all of the above and wait for the successfully propagated cattail flowers to bloom!
