The cutting method and time of roses The simplest and most viable method of cutting roses

There are two ways to propagate roses. Cuttings are usually used, and the second is grafting. The number of roses propagated by cuttings is large, and it does not take a lot of time. A large number of rose seedlings can be harvested in a very short time.

Cutting time

The best time for rose propagation by cuttings is from April to June in spring, or from October to November in autumn. The temperature in these two periods is suitable, and the success rate of cuttings is the highest. Cuttings are also best taken during their peak flowering period.

Cutting steps

Choose branches: Before rose cuttings, you need to choose suitable branches. You can choose woody hard branches, about 10 cm in length, with 3-4 buds on them. Remove the leaves at the base of the hard branches and cut the lower cut into an inclined surface so that they can take root quickly.

Preparation of potting soil: Roses cannot be planted in an alkaline environment, so you should choose acidic soil containing humus. You can add some river sand to the soil to avoid water accumulation. The soil used for cuttings generally does not contain base fertilizer, which will affect the rooting of the plant.

To carry out cuttings: use chopsticks to poke a 5 cm deep hole in the prepared soil, insert the branch into the hole, compact the soil and water it thoroughly. If the ambient temperature is relatively low, you can build a small rack with wooden strips and wrap it with plastic film.

Maintenance

After rose cuttings, they should be placed in a cool environment. If covered with film to keep warm, the film should be removed regularly every day to ventilate the branches to ensure air circulation. The ambient temperature should be maintained at around 23-27 degrees. Do not water too frequently, just spray water moderately.
