How to grow cyclamen

How to grow cyclamen

Farming methods

Soil selection

The culture soil for cyclamen can be made of humus, forest leaf mold, furnace ash, etc., and an appropriate amount of chemicals such as calcium carbonate should be added for preparation. This kind of soil is relatively loose, which is conducive to the growth of our cyclamen. When cultivating, pay attention to the size of the container, gradually increase it, and do not use large pots to cultivate seedlings.

Fertilization method

Cyclamen likes fertile soil, but does not like concentrated fertilizer. Some base fertilizer needs to be applied when repotting. Generally, it can be fertilized once every 1-2 weeks, and focus on applying thin fertilizers frequently. After several months of vegetative growth period, apply organic fertilizer and water the flowers. Stop fertilizing when the temperature cannot be controlled in summer.

Watering method

Although cyclamen is drought-tolerant, it is best to keep the soil moist during its growing season, and be careful not to allow water to accumulate in the pot. , water frequently but sparingly, and don't make it too wet. If it does not hibernate in summer, you can water it normally and keep the soil in the pot moist. After the beginning of autumn, it will enter the reproductive growth period. At this time, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied to control the growth of nutrients, promote the differentiation of flower buds, and form buds and bloom.

Temperature requirements

The suitable growth temperature for cyclamen is 10-22℃, and the temperature during the day and night should be maintained at 8-10℃. If the night temperature is controlled at around 7-8℃, the flowers can bloom, but the flowering period will be slightly delayed; if it is below 6℃, they will not bloom normally.

Lighting requirements

Temperature and light have a certain impact on the growth and development of cyclamen. During the whole process, you need to start with the temperature and consider extending the flowering period. When the number of flowers decreases in late April, the flowers need to be moved out of the greenhouse and placed in a well-ventilated place for cultivation. Changes in climate, suitable temperature and light will cause cyclamen to grow a batch of flower stalks and continue to bloom. In the Yangtze River Basin and its southern regions, the leaves gradually turn yellow after May. This is a reflection of the rising temperature. At this time, you need to control watering. In summer, if conditions permit, you should use cooling equipment to lower the ambient temperature.

Precautions

When the temperature exceeds 28℃ in summer, the bulbs of cyclamen will begin to dormant. If the dormant period is not well managed, the bulbs will easily dry out or rot, making it difficult to cultivate cyclamen safely through the summer.

Healthy seedlings are the best way for them to survive the summer. One-year-old seedlings grow vigorously and have a relatively weak tendency to dormant in summer. During the summer, it is necessary to strengthen the management of fertilizer and water to form strong seedlings with thick, numerous leaves, rich color and lustrous color. Such seedlings are relatively heat-resistant, so we need to do a good job of cooling down the plants by covering them with sunshade nets, increasing ventilation, and spraying water around the plants. After late August, cyclamen will enter its growth period and require strengthened fertilizer and water management.
