The correct method and skills of fish tank water

As the saying goes, "To raise fish, you must first raise water." If the water quality is poor, it will not only cause fish disease or even death, but will also destroy the ecological balance in the fish tank . Therefore, it is crucial for every fish keeper to master the correct methods and techniques of maintaining water in fish tanks. So how do we maintain water quality? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Soaking tank disinfection

If it is a new fish tank, it generally needs to be soaked and cleaned. Fill it with water and soak it for about 24 hours, and then drain the waste water. If the fish died in a fish tank due to a failed start-up, or the fish died in a fish tank due to disease, or if it is a second-hand fish tank that needs to be reopened, it is recommended to disinfect and sterilize all filtering equipment such as filter materials and water pumps.

2. Equipment installation

Install filtration hardware such as water pumps, heating rods (essential for tropical fish in winter), and filter materials. It is recommended that the filter material be soaked and cleaned with tap water before installation, and then placed in the fish tank filter device.

3. Fill water into the tank

Allow the tap water to sit for 2-3 days before adding it to the fish tank. Do not put ornamental fish in immediately. Instead, you need to turn on the filter, fill the fish tank with water, and run the filter continuously for at least seven days. The purpose is to circulate the filtration system of the entire fish tank and initially cultivate some probiotics, such as nitrifying bacteria.

4. Release fish to test the water

The main thing is to put some fish in the tank to act as cannon fodder. You can choose some cheap and easy-to-raise species. Pay attention to turning the lights on and off normally every day and remove the dead fish in time. The purpose of placing fish in the tank is to monitor the water quality and to check whether the water is suitable for raising fish. When green algae grows on the inner wall of the tank and no dead fish appear, you can add the main fish of the species you want to raise.

5. Change water appropriately

With the entry of fish into the fish tank, the concentration of ammonia nitrogen and nitrite in the water will increase rapidly, the nitrifying bacteria in the fish tank will begin to multiply in large numbers, and the nitrification system will begin to be established. In order to form a nitrification environment faster and to make the water quality gradually stabilize, we need to change a small amount of water. It is best recommended that you change a small amount of water every day, changing a quarter of the water each time.

6. Transition Management

After the main fish enters the tank, you can start feeding it slowly in small amounts, and be sure to increase the amount slowly. If the water becomes turbid again after the main fish have been fed for about a week, you can stop feeding the fish for two or three days to alleviate the problem. Then feed slowly and transition to normal feeding and water changes.

Through the above steps, the water in the fish tank is basically well maintained, which can effectively create a healthy living environment for the fish, reduce the occurrence of diseases, and promote the healthy growth of the fish.
