Cultivation methods and precautions for foliage begonia

Cultivation methods and precautions for foliage begonia

1. Light temperature

The foliage begonia is suitable for growing in places with scattered light and prefers a warm climate. It is usually placed in a semi-shaded place for maintenance to avoid direct sunlight, especially in summer, and it is important to pay attention to shading. In winter, the plants can be exposed to sunlight appropriately, but they must also be kept warm to prevent them from being frostbitten.

2. Loose soil

The ornamental-foliage begonia has relatively high requirements for the soil. In addition to being rich in humus, it must also have strong water retention capacity and good drainage. This can ensure that the environment is moist without affecting the breathing of the roots due to too much water. You can prepare potting soil by mixing garden soil with river sand in a ratio of 2:1.

3. Water frequently

Foliage Begonia likes a humid climate, so it must be watered frequently and the environment should not be allowed to become dry. It should be noted that the amount of water should be controlled each time watering, and there should be no accumulation of water, otherwise it will cause root rot. If the climate is dry, the temperature is high, and water is lost quickly, you need to spray water around to increase the humidity of the environment.

4. Reasonable fertilization

The growth of ornamental foliage begonia requires certain nutrients, so it is necessary to fertilize regularly. Usually, fertilizer should be applied once every half a month during the peak growing season. The fertilizer should be a compound fertilizer mainly composed of nitrogen, or a thin cake fertilizer water. When applying fertilizer, do not spray it on the leaves, but irrigate the roots so that it can be absorbed.
