Cultivation and watering of money tree in winter

The money tree is popular for its auspicious name and vibrant meaning, especially among business people, who often keep it as a potted plant in the hope that it will bring wealth and good luck. Many people also like to place such plants in their homes in the hope of attracting more prosperity and luck. The leaves of the money tree are bright green and elegant in shape, making it very suitable for decorating living rooms and study rooms, looking both grand and elegant. As a perennial evergreen shrub, the money tree may encounter problems such as yellowing leaves, falling leaves, and even root rot during maintenance, especially in winter, when these situations are particularly critical. Let’s learn together how to grow and water the money tree in winter.

1. Water management

The money tree grows best in a warm, humid and well-ventilated environment. It likes plenty of sunlight but can also adapt to partial shade. Pay attention to the technique when watering, avoid overwatering, and ensure that there is no water accumulation in the potting soil to prevent leaves from falling, yellowing and root rot. Wait until the soil is dry before watering fully. The frequency of watering should be reduced in winter to prevent frostbite of the roots. If watering is necessary, it is best to choose sunny weather.

2. Temperature control

Temperature is crucial to the growth of money trees, especially in winter. It grows well in a warm environment; long-term low temperatures will affect its growth and even cause frostbite. When the outside temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius, the money tree should be moved to a warm place indoors in time. It can grow normally above 18 degrees Celsius and grow more vigorously at 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. If the temperature drops below 18 degrees Celsius, growth will stagnate. The indoor temperature should be kept above 5 degrees Celsius to avoid frostbite caused by long-term low temperature.

In northern cities or when there is no heating at home, you should take measures to keep warm. For example, you can use a large plastic bag to cover the money tree and place it indoors, away from the outdoors. When the temperature is high, open the bag for ventilation. This keeps the temperature down and allows the plants to remain green even in sub-zero winters.

3. Lighting requirements

Make sure your money tree gets plenty of light in winter to prevent its leaves from falling. At the same time, control watering and keep the soil in the pot slightly dry to facilitate wintering.

4. Ventilation conditions

In winter, indoor doors and windows are usually closed, resulting in poor ventilation. In sunny weather, you can open the windows appropriately to increase air circulation and let the money tree breathe fresh air.

5. Fertilizer application

If the indoor temperature is too low in winter, there is no need to fertilize the money tree. If the indoor temperature is above 15 degrees Celsius, you can add appropriate amounts of nutrients, such as organic fertilizers (such as decomposed cake fertilizer, chicken manure fertilizer, etc.) or potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution. As the temperature rises, the roots will gradually regain their vitality, absorb nutrients, promote growth, and continuously sprout new shoots, making the plants lush.

The above is an introduction to the cultivation methods of the money tree. When cultivating the money tree in winter, you should pay more attention to the points mentioned in the article so that the leaves will not turn yellow in winter.
