When is it time to repot Clivia? How to deal with the excessive roots when repotting

1. Time to change pots

It is very important to repot Clivia in spring and autumn because the climate at this time is very suitable for its growth. If you repot the soil at this time, it can adapt to the pot faster, which is also very beneficial for its later growth. It is not recommended to do this in summer and winter as these two seasons have extreme weather. Repotting in summer will easily cause bacteria to grow in the soil, which may infect the plant roots. Not only is it difficult to adapt to the new pot when repotting in winter, but it is also prone to frostbite.

2. How to deal with multiple roots

When repotting it, if it has many roots and is growing very healthily, there is no need to prune it. Just let it spread out in the pot when planting it. However, if there are many roots and some of them are rotten or dead, they need to be pruned appropriately, but the healthy roots should not be exposed. After root pruning, the plants need to be dried and disinfected. They cannot be planted directly because they have fleshy roots and contain a lot of water, and the roots are prone to rot if they are planted right after pruning.

3. Notes

1. The flowerpot used for repotting should be breathable and larger. Commonly used clay pots can be chosen. If the air permeability of the pot is relatively poor, water will easily accumulate in the pot, causing root rot.

2. When repotting and filling the soil, be careful not to fill the entire pot with soil. There should be about 5 cm distance from the edge of the pot. This will be very beneficial for watering later.
