1. Morphological characteristics

The stem of Houttuynia cordata is flat and cylindrical, slightly twisted, with a brown-yellow surface and many longitudinal ridges. The nodes are very obvious, and the whole plant is about 30-50 cm tall. The leaves are alternate, papery, with obvious glandular dots on the back. The leaves are ovate or broadly ovate in shape, some are curled and wrinkled, the surface color is dark yellow-green to dark brown, and the underneath color is gray-green. The petiole is not long, about 1-3.5 cm in length. Houttuynia cordata blooms in summer, with terminal spike inflorescences. The flowers are relatively small, with 4 white bracts on the petals, and can also produce nearly spherical capsules.

2. Growth habits

Houttuynia cordata likes to grow in warm places, prefers moisture and cannot tolerate drought, so water cannot be lacking. It is not very demanding on soil, but grows best in fertile sandy loam and cannot grow in clay.
