When is the right time to sow spring millet?

Spring millet sowing time

Spring millet is a common grain that is grown in every household. However, due to different climates in different places, the planting time is different. Spring millet is generally sown around May. If it is in a cold area, it is generally sown in late April, and no later than the end of May. It is harvested once a year.

Spring millet sowing method

1. Site selection and land preparation: Spring millet is suitable for growing in soft soil with good drainage, deep soil layer, fertility and high terrain. Therefore, when selecting a site, you can choose loose fertile loam or sandy loam for planting. After selecting the site, you must deep plow the soil, apply some rotted farm manure, and also do a good job of disinfection.

2. Process the seeds: Expose the seeds to the sun for 2-3 days, then put them in warm water at about 20 degrees, add carbendazim and soak for a day. Finally, take them out, cover them with a wet cloth and put them in a cool and ventilated place. They will germinate after a week.

3. Sowing: First, spread a layer of manure on the seedbed, then evenly spread the germinated seeds on the soil, and finally cover with a thin layer of soil, seal the surrounding with a film, and allow the seedlings to germinate.

4. Transplanting: When the height of spring millet is about 15 cm, pull it out and sow it in the field. When sowing, plant it with a row spacing of 10 cm and a plant spacing of 15 cm.

Spring millet ripe harvest

Spring millet can be harvested in just 30 to 50 days when the grains harden and take on the color of the variety. Due to differences in planting areas, varieties, sowing times, management measures, and sowing methods, there is no uniform yield per mu, which is generally between 500 and 1,300 kilograms.
