How to make gardenia grow taller and thicker

How to make gardenia grow taller and thicker

1. Proper pruning

When the main trunk of the gardenia grows to about 20 centimeters in height, it should be topped in time, leaving only three or four branches to concentrate the nutrients as much as possible. This can promote branching and make the plant fuller when it grows. Also, always trim off branches that grow too fast or too densely. After the flowers fade every year, the sick and weak branches should be pruned off and the overly long branches should be cut off. It should be noted that the top of the branches cannot be shortened in spring, otherwise it will be difficult to bloom that year.

2. Suitable lighting

Appropriate light can allow the plant to synthesize sufficient nutrients, making its trunk grow taller and thicker. It is necessary to ensure that the plant has 60% of sunlight every day, especially in the morning and evening, so that it can see more sunlight, but be careful to avoid strong light.

3. Suitable soil

The soil for growing gardenias is also very important. The soil must be loose, fertile, nutrient-rich, slightly acidic soil, which is conducive to the plant's absorption of nutrients and promoting its own growth. You can use leaf mold to prepare it, and add some decomposed organic fertilizer into it to increase the nutrient content in the soil.

4. Fertilize at the right time

Gardenia likes fertilizer, and it needs sufficient nutrient supply to grow tall and thick. When planting, you can apply some decomposed cake fertilizer as base fertilizer. During its growth period, you can apply a little more nitrogen fertilizer, but you cannot apply only nitrogen fertilizer, otherwise it will cause it to grow too tall. It is also necessary to apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers according to its growth conditions to ensure the balance of nutrients.

5. Appropriate moisture

Gardenia likes moisture. When you see the soil in the pot is dry, you should add water in time. You can also spray water on the branches and leaves of the plant to increase the humidity of the surrounding environment so that the plant has enough water supply to grow strong.
