Tips for growing orchids indoors: how to make them bloom

1. Maintenance skills

1. Maintenance environment: For indoor cultivation, orchids should be placed on windowsills, flower stands, desks, etc. where there is good ventilation, diffuse light and plenty of sunlight. When the temperature is too high and the light is strong in summer, shading measures are needed. When the temperature is too low in winter, move the plant to a warm place indoors.

2. Soil selection: Orchids prefer fertile soil rich in humus. When preparing orchid growing soil, you can choose peat soil, black mountain soil, garden soil and moss, etc. Spreading a layer of gravel and moss on the surface of the flowerpot can keep it warm and moisturize.

3. Watering: The summer is hot and the water evaporates quickly, so it is necessary to water once in the morning and once in the evening. You can also use foliar spray to cool down and moisturize the plants, but avoid watering or spraying at noon. In winter, reduce the amount of watering and water only when the soil in the pot is almost dry. It is best to use slightly acidic water such as rainwater for watering, and tap water can only be used after being exposed to the sun.

4. Humidity: Keep the relative humidity of the air between 40-70%. Such a humidity environment is conducive to plant growth. Too dry or too wet will cause adverse reactions in the plants. Placing a hygrometer next to your orchid will allow you to visually monitor the humidity of its growing environment.

2. How to grow it to bloom

1. Repotting: Orchids need to be repotted once a year to provide sufficient nutrients for the plants and avoid soil compaction, which is conducive to better growth and flowering of orchids.

2. Adequate light: Orchids need sufficient light conditions during their flowering period. The plant's ability to carry out sufficient photosynthesis is the key to promoting orchid flowering.

3. Adequate nutrients: Orchids have a higher demand for nutrients during flowering, and the plants need to be supplemented with nutrients in a timely manner. Especially phosphorus and potassium elements are the key to promoting orchid flowering. During its growth period, you can apply a thin liquid fertilizer once every half a month, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers 1-2 times before flowering.
