How to manage grapes in July?

July is a very important month for grape cultivation. This month is a critical period for coloring and ripening of early-ripening grapes . For late-ripening grapes, this is the stage of secondary expansion of the fruit. Let’s learn in detail how to manage grapes in July.

1. Fruit Management

Early maturing varieties: focus on promoting fruit coloring and ripening. If the fruit does not color well, the fruit bags can be removed in advance to increase light exposure. At the same time, remove old and diseased leaves, and remove leaves that block the fruit clusters to increase the light rate.

Medium and late maturing varieties: mainly prevent fruit cracking and ensure healthy growth of fruit.

2. Water and Fertilizer Management

Early-maturing grapes: The demand for potassium fertilizer is high during the coloring period. It is recommended to apply 30 kg/mu of potassium sulfate type compound fertilizer and combine it with spraying of potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution to promote sugar increase and coloring.

Mid- and late-ripening grapes: A large amount of nutrients are required during the fruit expansion period. It is recommended to apply 15-20 kg/mu of urea and compound fertilizer each, and replenish water in time.

3. Branch and vine management

Control excessive growth of lateral shoots and avoid excessive pinching which may cause premature germination of winter buds. Continue to tie up branches and vines to keep the park tidy.

4. Pest and disease control

Key control areas include downy mildew, anthracnose, white rot and gray mold. Combine prevention and treatment, using appropriate protective and therapeutic agents.

Downy mildew: Use protective agents such as mancozeb and copper preparations for prevention before the rain, and focus on prevention and control before and after the White Dew.

Gray mold: Use protective agents such as carbendazim and isoprodinil to clean up diseased and dead tissues in a timely manner.

Anthracnose and white rot: Use protective agents such as carbendazim and isoprodinil; therapeutic agents include pyrimethanil and imazalil.

The above is the fertilizer for grapes in July. Taking these management measures can ensure that the grapes have good growing conditions during this critical period in July, laying a solid foundation for achieving high quality and high yield.
