How to buy gardenias and how to care for them

How to buy gardenias and how to care for them

1. How to buy Gardenia

There are two ways to buy gardenias. The first way is to go directly to a flower shop or flower market to buy them. This method is more intuitive and allows you to observe and select them on the spot. The second way is to purchase on the e-commerce platform and then have the seller transport the goods via logistics. This method does not require leaving home and is more convenient, but it is not intuitive enough, you cannot see the specific quality, and there is a certain degree of uncertainty in the logistics and transportation process.

2. How to take care of the purchased gardenia

Potting soil: The newly purchased gardenia usually comes with garden soil, which is usually not suitable for home cultivation or the quality is difficult to guarantee, so it is necessary to replace the plant with more suitable soil. However, the newly purchased soil is relatively fragile and cannot withstand further disturbance, so you have to wait until the plant adapts to the new environment and can grow normally before changing the pot and soil. The flowerpot doesn't need to be too big, as long as it is breathable and has drainage holes at the bottom. The soil needs to be loose, fertile, breathable and slightly acidic. You can mix garden soil, leaf mold and coarse gravel in a ratio of 1:1:1.

Sunlight: Newly purchased gardenias cannot be exposed to direct sunlight and must be placed in an environment with a certain amount of scattered light. Wait for it to gradually adapt to the environment and enter a normal growth state before moving it to an environment with sufficient light. When the light is too strong in summer, pay attention to shade; in winter, it can accept full sunlight.

Water: The newly bought gardenia should be watered thoroughly at one time, also called "rooting water", which can promote the plant to take root. After it gradually enters a normal growth state, you can water it according to the dryness and wetness of the potting soil. Be careful not to water it too much to avoid water accumulation. During the high temperatures in summer, in addition to watering the roots, you can also spray water on the leaves.

Nutrients: Gardenia needs sufficient nutrients to bloom, so it needs to be fertilized in time. Especially during its growing period in May and before flowering, sufficient fertilizer should be applied to ensure sufficient nutrients.
