The difference between lantern fruit and girl fruit

The difference between lantern fruit and girl fruit

1. Differences in morphology

The lantern fruit is a perennial shrub, which is usually around 1.2m tall, with gray-black old branches and twigs that are usually covered with soft hairs that are gray or gray-brown. The girl fruit is an upright herb, with a height of about 50-80cm. The stems above the ground are generally unbranched, the nodes are very swollen, and the stems have dense soft hairs when young.

2. Difference in appearance

The appearance of the lantern fruit is spherical and the fruit is slightly larger than a human thumb. It looks like there are vertical lines growing on it, so it looks like a lantern, which is also the origin of the name. The girl fruit is very transparent and has very clear longitudinal vascular bundles.

3. Difference in taste

There are seeds in the lantern fruit, and there is not much water inside. It tastes a bit like pomegranate. It tastes very sour when it is not ripe. When it is ripe, it has a purple-red appearance and tastes sweet and sour. The girl fruit contains more water and fewer seeds. It tastes bitter when it is immature, but the ripe fruit is yellow and tastes sweet.

4. Differences in growth habits

Cape fruit likes sunlight and is not very demanding on the soil in which it grows. The suitable growth temperature is around 20-25℃. The girl fruit has good adaptability, prefers a cool environment, and has low temperature requirements. It can grow in an environment of 3-42℃.
