What to do if Gloxinia does not bloom

What to do if Gloxinia does not bloom

Choose good varieties of Gloxinia seeds

If you want Gloxinia to bloom more, you should first choose imported hybrid first-generation excellent varieties with abundant flowers, short and strong plant shape, strong disease resistance, rapid growth and easy management as mother plants. At the same time, you should note that single-petal varieties bloom more than double-petal varieties, so you should try to choose single-petal varieties when choosing. In addition, it is generally recommended to use the sowing method for seedling cultivation. After the seedlings emerge, strengthen management and take good care of them, paying attention to the seedlings that have three cotyledons at the same time. Such seedlings tend to bloom more and are hereditary, so they can be propagated asexually to maintain the high purity of the variety.

Pay attention to the temperature of Gloxinia

Gloxinia likes warmth, and the suitable temperature during its growing period is 20~25℃. It grows most vigorously in spring. It will automatically enter a dormant state when the temperature is below 5 degrees in winter. Excessively high temperatures are not conducive to the normal growth and development of the plant. When the temperature in summer is above 30℃, it will be in a semi-dormant state. At this time, you should pay attention to cooling down. During the growing period, Gloxinia prefers a warm and humid environment and avoids direct sunlight. In summer, attention should be paid to shading and the plant should be kept cool. Around 23℃ is conducive to flowering. The temperature should be maintained at 18-23℃ from January to October; it is best to maintain the temperature at 10-12℃ during the dormant period. The minimum temperature should not be lower than around 5℃, which can also allow it to safely survive the winter.

Make sure the gloxinia has enough humidity

The air is sufficiently moist during the growing period, and moderate moisture is required, but heavy watering is not suitable. During heavy rains in summer, rainwater should be avoided to dilute soil nutrients and damage the roots. A relatively dry environment is required during the winter dormancy period, which is conducive to its self-recovery and energy storage during the dormant period. In order for Gloxinia to bloom, suitable air humidity is essential, and with sufficient fertilizer and water, you can harvest beautiful flowers.

Adjusting the culture medium of Gloxinia

The roots of Gloxinia are capillary and relatively fragile, and are easily broken when attached by water stains and heavy clay soil. Therefore, in order to make African violets bloom more, the cultivation soil should be relatively loose, such as leaf mold, perlite, peat, sawdust (already decomposed), vermiculite, pine needles, mushroom waste (already decomposed), etc. The cultivation tools should be breathable and water-permeable, such as small flower pots with holes around them. Fertilizers can be sesame paste residue (already decomposed), chicken manure and compound fertilizer. It should be noted that during the seedling stage, fertilization should be applied in small amounts and multiple times to avoid fertilizer damage.

Trim excess leaves

If the leaves around the flowers hinder the flowers from opening, you can cut off some of them or cut off half of the relevant leaves as needed to leave room for light, so that all the flowers can bloom at the top of the plant, forming a bouquet, which is more conducive to the beauty of the plant shape.
