1. When to sow wheatThe wheat sowing time depends on the region. The area south of the Great Wall mainly grows winter wheat, which is usually sown between September and October each year and harvested between April and May of the following year. The area north of the Great Wall mainly grows spring wheat, which is usually sown between March and April after the Spring Festival and can be harvested in August or September of the same year. 2. When to harvestIf winter wheat planted south of the Great Wall is sown between September and October, it can be harvested in April or May of the following year. If the spring wheat planted north of the Great Wall is sown after the Spring Festival, it can be harvested in August or September of the same year. 3. Wheat sowing methodThere are three main methods of wheat sowing: row sowing, broadcast sowing and hole sowing. The seeds sown in rows fall more evenly and the depth of the covering soil is also more consistent. After the seedlings emerge, they will be more competitive. In the later stage, you will find that wheat grown by row sowing has better ventilation and air permeability, which facilitates mechanized management. The broadcasting method is mainly used in areas where wheat-cotton intercropping or rice-wheat rotation is practiced. The soil in these areas is relatively sticky and land preparation is difficult, so broadcasting is suitable for sowing, which can save time and labor. The nutritional area of each seedling produced by this sowing method is better, but the depth of the seeds in the soil is inconsistent. The hole sowing method is also called spot sowing or nest sowing and is used in wheat fields after rice stubble. This sowing method applies fertilizer in a more concentrated manner, the seeds are sown at a consistent depth, the seedlings emerge more vigorously, and it is easier to manage. The disadvantages are that it is labor-intensive, the hole spacing is large, and the number of seedlings is relatively small, which will affect the final yield. |
