When and how to plant edamame

Edamame planting time

1. Different varieties of edamame have different planting times. Early-maturing varieties are generally sown in February and March, and can be transplanted in late March. After transplanting, they can be harvested in June and July. Medium-maturing varieties are generally sown in April and May, and can be harvested in July and August.

2. Late-maturing varieties are generally sown in June and July and can be harvested in September and October. If planted in the southern region, they can also be sown in July and August and harvested in September to November.

How to grow edamame

1. Land preparation

Choose a plot of land with fertile soil, deep soil layer and good drainage as the planting site, and deep plow the soil in the winter of the first year of planting to use the sunlight to bleach the soil. This can kill some of the pathogens in the soil. Then apply enough base fertilizer to the soil to improve soil fertility.

2. Planting

Sow the seeds into the holes in the soil. Generally, 4-5 seeds can be sown in each hole. After sowing, cover them with a thin layer of soil, about 2 cm. This will facilitate the germination of the seeds. Spray herbicide once 2 days after covering the soil to prevent weeds from affecting the growth of seedlings.

Precautions for planting edamame

After planting edamame, you must pay attention to maintenance and management. Make sure it receives sufficient light during the seedling stage, and apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to avoid symptoms such as slow growth and yellowing leaves. When the plant grows to a certain size, you can pinch and top it to prevent the plant from growing too tall.
