Cutting method of Begonia truncatula

time

Begonia is usually propagated by cuttings in spring and autumn. Because it likes warm and sunny environments, is afraid of high temperatures, and is not cold-resistant, we need to provide it with appropriate light during the growing season. If there is not enough light, its internodes may become long and thin, and it may fall over easily. Therefore, we choose to start cuttings in this season, which will have the best effect on its growth and reproduction.

Cutting and planting

When taking cuttings, we must choose strong top branches, cut them into 6 to 9 cm, and then insert them into the sand bed or vermiculite, keeping them slightly moist. The cuttings will take root in the next two to three weeks, and can be potted one week after rooting. It should be noted that it is difficult for branches without roots to carry out photosynthesis according to their own capabilities, so we can spray them with a certain amount of water to maintain the water needs and balance in the plant. Generally, it takes 3 to 5 times a day under normal shady conditions. The higher the temperature on sunny days, the more times we need to spray. On rainy days, we can reduce the amount of spray or not spray at all.

Maintenance and management:

Due to the characteristics of the Chinese Begonia, the newly planted pot needs to be slightly dry. Too dry or too much water may cause welding or root rot. When the seedlings are about 20 cm tall, we can pinch them off to allow the plants to branch more and bloom more. Under normal circumstances, we need plenty of sunlight and fertilize once every half a month. Due to the high temperatures in summer, the plants will enter a semi-dormant state. In this case, we should place the plants in a ventilated and cool place for maintenance, and stop fertilizing them, and wait until autumn to start the next round of careful care. Every spring we need to replace its current pot. This flower prefers sandy soil, preferably loose and fertile. We also need to do a new pruning according to the changed pot, reducing the existing branches by about half or one-third, to encourage the growth of new branches and leaves and more vibrant flowers.
