What are the varieties of blueberries and which ones are good?

1. Northern Highbush Blueberry

Duke and Blueblossom are medium-ripening varieties, Big Blue Gold and Brigitta are late-ripening varieties, and Legacy is a medium-late-ripening variety. All of them belong to the northern highbush blueberry. Its main characteristic is its strong cold resistance, some of which can even withstand temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius. It has the highest economic value among all varieties.

2. Southern Highbush Blueberry

O'Neill is an early-maturing variety, Mist and Sharp Blue are mid-maturing varieties, Cool and Sunshine Blue are late-maturing varieties, all of which are southern highbush blueberries. It was introduced from the United States. Its main feature is that it does not require too long a cooling time, generally 200-400 hours can meet it. It is more suitable for planting in the southern region, and the overall tree body is smaller.

3. Semi-highbush blueberry

This variety can be divided into three types: Kita-lan, Hokuriku, and Kitamura. Its advantage is that it is cold-resistant and can generally withstand temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees or even minus 35 degrees. The tree is relatively short, and the quality of the fruit is better than that of the southern highbush, but the overall size is smaller than that of the northern highbush. It requires a high amount of cold to grow, generally more than 1000 hours.

4. Rabbiteye Blueberry

Brilliant and Emerald are early-maturing varieties, Southland is medium-late maturing, and Pink Blue is late maturing, and all of them are rabbiteye blueberries. This variety originated in the United States. It is resistant to humidity, heat and drought, but has poor cold resistance.
