Can yam be eaten after it sprouts? How to plant yam after it sprouts?

1. Can I eat it?

Yam sprouts are also edible. The sprouting of this plant is different from that of potatoes and is not toxic. However, since it enters a new growth stage, it tends to consume its own nutrients, so the nutritional value will be slightly reduced. In addition, to be on the safe side, you can also cut off the sprouts before cooking and eating.

2. How to plant

The sprouting of yam means that it has entered the growing season again, so there is no need to do much processing. Just prepare the soil and bury it. It is usually planted in a place with deep soil. If it is potted, choose a taller pot so that its roots and stems can grow fully. The soil should be loose and fertile. Don't use a substrate that is too hard, otherwise it will cause it to grow completely. After planting it in the soil, you need to water it with an appropriate amount to ensure its growth and development.

3. Other reproduction methods

1. Reed head propagation: Reed head propagation is a commonly used propagation method for yam. Compared with directly planting the sprouted rhizomes, the reed head will germinate faster. Usually we choose healthy rhizomes and cut off the rhizomes with buds on them. After cutting, let it dry for a few days and store it in the sand. Wait until spring to take it out, place it horizontally in the soil, bury it and water it appropriately.

2. Propagation by yam beans: yam beans are usually picked and preserved when harvested. Keep them away from light and keep the temperature at 5℃. It is usually planted in spring. Select the ones with larger grains and no damage, bury them in the soil, water them and wait for them to germinate. Before sowing, apply sufficient base fertilizer, usually turn the soil 30 cm deep and apply the fertilizer into it.
