1. Sunflower seeds

Sunflower seeds are generally considered to be its fruit. Academically, they are called achenes, commonly known as melon seeds and sunflower seeds. However, the fruit consists of three parts: pericarp, seed coat and embryo. The seeds of sunflower specifically refer to its embryo, i.e. the kernel. The seeds can be eaten and pressed for oil. They are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, proteins, carbohydrates, and other vitamins and trace elements. They are a very popular snack and source of edible oil. Generally, edible seeds are longer, the pericarp is thicker, and the color is mostly alternating black and white stripes. Oil-producing seeds are relatively short, have thin skin, and are mainly black in color.

2. How to plant sunflower seeds

The sowing time of sunflower is from March to April, and the suitable temperature for sowing is 18-25℃. Before sowing, the seeds must first be soaked in warm water and then sown after they germinate. The sowing time depends on the variety of seeds, generally spring sowing and autumn sowing are the main ones. It is best to plant it on flat land with medium fertility, convenient irrigation and drainage, and relatively low soil viscosity.

3. How many days does it take for sunflowers to germinate?

Sunflowers usually germinate around 5-7 days. When sowing sunflowers, make sure the ground temperature is within a certain range, which will help the seeds germinate smoothly and quickly. When the local temperature is above 2℃, the seeds will germinate; when it is 4-5℃, the seeds will germinate and take root; when the local temperature reaches 8-10℃, the seeds will germinate and seedlings will emerge. The optimum temperature for seed germination is 31-37℃, and the maximum temperature can reach around 38-44℃.
