The difference between flat bamboo root and iris

1. Different varieties

Although flat bamboo root and iris both belong to the Iridaceae family and the Iris genus, they are essentially different and are not the same plant. If you observe carefully, you can tell the difference. It has many nicknames, including iron shoulder pole, fermented black bean leaf root, butterfly flower, etc.

Iris is different from the former because it is artificially domesticated. It is also called roof iris, blue butterfly, black kite, flat bamboo flower, and toad seven.

2. Different flowers

The flowers of the flat bamboo root are arranged in racemes. The flowers are mostly lavender or white, relatively light in color, and have yellow spots on the petals. The diameter of the flowers is about 5 cm, and the individual petals are obovate or elliptical, about 2.5-3 cm long.

The iris flowers are dark purple in color, and the color of the petals is relatively pure, without any yellow spots. The diameter is about 10 cm.

3. Different fruits

The flat bamboo roots will produce oval capsules, which are about 2.5-3cm long and about 1.2-1.5cm in diameter.

The fruits of iris are oblong or obovate in shape, about 4.5~6cm in length and about 2~2.5cm in diameter.
