Summer is the home season for lotus , which is very beautiful, with elegant flowers and pleasant fragrance. Many people want to grow lotus flowers, so how to care for fresh cut lotus flowers? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Remove residual flap When choosing lotus flowers, it is best to choose those with slightly fluffy buds. Do not choose those that have already opened or those that are too raw. Tear off the outer petals that are damaged, wrapped too tightly, or broken. It is recommended to peel off the blue outer petals. 2. Deep water awakening After receiving the flowers, immerse them in deep water for 4-5 hours to wake them up, then cut the roots 2-3 cm diagonally. 3. Root backwashing To ensure timely and effective supply of water and nutrients to the flower heads, you can first fill the flower stems with water. Turn the lotus upside down with the roots facing upwards, turn on the faucet to the minimum water flow, and slowly pour water into the flower stem until bubbles stop. During the water filling process, you can gently shake the lotus up and down. 4. Prepare the vase The vase for growing lotus can be a narrow-mouthed round-bellied bottle or a straight-tube glass vase . A glass vase is best, but the height must be above 20 cm. 5. Fill the vase with water The water level should be above 80% of the vase, and the flower head should be 10-15cm away from the vase mouth. Dissolve the preservative in clean water at a ratio of 1:100. However, the specific amount should be determined according to the size of the vase. Generally, a vase with a height of about 20 cm requires 1 ml of preservative solution. 6. Insert lotus Arrange the lotus flowers in the vase according to their heights. After putting the lotus in the vase, you need to place it in a bright place to help the flowers bloom. Be sure not to place it near the air outlet of the air conditioner, as this will accelerate the withering of the lotus. 7. Change water frequently In summer, the weather is hot and bacteria breed, so the water usually needs to be changed every 1-2 days. When the lotus is maintained in a vase, it is easy to form mucus, which not only hinders the flower stem from absorbing water, but also affects the water quality. Therefore, when changing the water, rinse the roots, and then use scissors to cut the roots 2-3cm at a 45-degree angle. 8. Assisted flowering Most of the lotus flowers grown in bottles cannot bloom on their own and need external help. You can gently rub the flower buds to open the tips of the petals, and then peel the petals apart one by one, or you can put them under the faucet to use the force of the water to help them bloom. Note that you need to be gentle during the whole process, as petals with creases will easily turn black. That’s it |
