Cultivation methods and precautions of money tree succulent

There are many aliases for the Money Tree, including cloud leaf, cloud leaf purslane , copper coin sedum and round shell purslane. The leaves are slightly fleshy, oval in shape, and usually clustered at the top of the stem. Let’s learn together about the cultivation methods and precautions of the Money Tree succulent.

1. Temperature

Money tree prefers a warm environment, and the suitable growth temperature is about 23℃. It is not resistant to extreme temperatures and may wilt when the temperature exceeds 30℃, while it is easily frozen when the temperature is below 10℃. Therefore, pay attention to shade in summer to avoid damage from high temperatures. In winter, it should be moved indoors to ensure the temperature is suitable.

2. Soil

Money tree has a strong water storage capacity, so it needs loose and breathable soil. It is recommended to mix river sand, leaf mold and garden soil in a ratio of 1:1:1, and add appropriate amount of vermiculite or rainbow stone to enhance drainage and air permeability. Avoid using heavy soils as this can cause waterlogging around the roots, leading to rot.

3. Lighting

Money tree likes bright scattered light, but should avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burns. Under sufficient diffuse light, the leaves will be greener and more beautiful. It needs appropriate shade in the summer, but can receive full sunlight in spring, autumn and winter. Proper lighting helps the money tree grow healthily and look beautiful.

4. Watering

Money tree is drought-tolerant but not water-tolerant, so watering should follow the principle of "don't water unless the soil is dry, and water thoroughly when watering". Water the plant only after the soil in the pot is completely dry to avoid overwatering which may cause root rot. The right amount of water can make the leaves firm and thick and the branches upright. In a hot and humid environment, the amount of watering should be controlled to prevent the potting soil from being too wet.

5. Fertilization

During the growth period of the money tree, the principle of "applying small amounts of fertilizer frequently" should be adhered to. Apply a thin liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer once a month to avoid excessive fertilization that may cause root burn. If the leaves turn yellow, apply an appropriate amount of ferrous sulfate to improve the soil pH.

6. Pruning

As the money tree grows, proper pruning will help it to have a beautiful shape. You can prune the tree according to your personal preference by pinching or beheading. Do not waste the cut branches, you can use them for cutting propagation to get new plants.

I hope these suggestions can help you better care for the money tree. The money tree has a high ornamental value with its peculiar leaf shape and emerald green color. Its leaves are like strings of copper coins, which symbolizes good luck. They are especially suitable for old stumps, making them more simple and elegant.
