Cowpea, also known as beans , is a traditional vegetable in China. Due to year-round cultivation, the occurrence of cowpea diseases and pests is becoming increasingly serious. Therefore, disease and pest control has become an important part of cowpea production. Below are some pictures and treatments of cowpea diseases and pests. 1. Cowpea rust It mainly harms the leaves, small yellow spots appear on the leaves, gradually expanding into round or oval spots, and there is yellow powdery substance on the surface of the spots. Prevention and control methods : Sulfur·manganese zinc, pyraclostrobin·myclobutanil, amyclobutanil, pyraclostrobin, tebuconazole and other agents can be used for prevention and control. 2. Powdery mildew of cowpea It mainly harms leaves, but can also damage stems, vines and pods. When the leaves are infected, yellow-brown spots first appear on the back of the leaves, which expand into purple-brown spots covered with a thin layer of white powder. Later, the spots spread along the leaf veins. Prevention and control methods: Use benzoyl-pyrazole, benzoyl-myclobutanil, trifloxystrobin-tebuconazole, pyrazole-mancozeb and other agents for prevention and control in a timely manner. 3. Cowpea Anthracnose Anthracnose is a fungal disease that can damage leaves, stems, and pods. The disease is spread through rain and insects, and is more severe during the rainy season. Fields with low-lying terrain, heavy clay soil, and overlying crops are prone to the disease. Prevention and control methods: You can use prochloraz, propiconazole, isothiocarb, and pyraclostrobin. Combine with potassium dihydrogen fertilizer or amino acid foliar fertilizer for alternating use. 4. Cowpea Thrips Thrips are one of the most important pests of cowpea and can harm the beans throughout their entire growing period. It mainly harms the heart of the bean, causing the leaves to curl. In severe cases, the heart of the bean will die and the growing point will stop growing. Prevention and control methods: Use avermectin benzoate, spinetoram, spirotetramat, pyriproxyfen, acetamiprid, etc. for spray control. 5. Cowpea aphids It mainly harms tender leaves, stems and pods, sucks plant juice, causes leaves to curl and deform, and affects growth. Prevention and control methods: including using yellow boards to lure and kill aphids; protecting natural enemies such as ladybugs and lacewings; spraying pesticides such as imidacloprid and thiamethoxam in the early stages of the disease. In general, there are many types of diseases and pests of cowpea. In the process of prevention and control, we must focus on comprehensive prevention and control, start from multiple aspects, and work together to prevent and control cowpea diseases and pests.
