Heather cultivation methods and precautions

Heather cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

It likes rich, moist soil. It can be grown in sandy soil with good drainage, such as river sand. Note that it is better to have a thicker soil layer when breeding.

2. Lighting

It likes an environment with good sunlight and can be placed in a sunny place to promote its growth. It can also survive in a relatively dark environment, but it should not be kept in a dark environment for a long time.

3. Temperature

Photinia prefers warmer conditions but can tolerate cold weather. Usually it can withstand temperatures as low as -15 degrees in winter, but appropriate warming measures must be taken to avoid frostbite and prevent normal growth. Generally speaking, it can be moved indoors for breeding in winter.

4. Watering

It prefers a relatively humid environment, but can also tolerate drought. Newly planted plants need moisture and should be given sufficient water. In addition, during its growing period, the soil in the pot should be kept moderately moist, without any accumulation of water. In the high temperatures of summer, you need to water it more often, and you can spray water to help it cool down. It should be placed in a place with good airflow.

5. Fertilization

Photinia can tolerate barrenness and can grow in general environment. It can grow better with the nourishment of fertilizer, but the fertilizer concentration should not be too high. You can apply base fertilizer in advance and apply additional fertilizer once a year.

6. Pests and diseases

Leaf spot disease is common and will damage the leaves. Spray medicine to remove it when necessary. Scale insects and other insects often damage the growth of plants. Spraying with pesticides in time can help the plants resume normal growth.
